Couples Therapy
Couples Therapy can be one of the most profound and beneficial relational experiences partners can have together. Intimate relationship can be challenging, and help is often needed. Insight Psychiatry honors the challenge and the potential for growth that lies in intimate relationship. The dance of relationship is one we learn very early in our lives, before we are even aware that we are learning. Many people never update their relational dance steps, and continue to use the same ones across their entire lives. This can make for a painful experience when two dance partners constantly step on one another’s toes. One of the most common patterns we see with couples is pointing out the others mistakes and shortcomings. The transition we assist couples in making at Insight Psychiatry is to first take responsibility for one’s own actions instead of blaming others for our experiences. The other significant transition we facilitate is transforming blame into healthy feedback. The final transformation is transforming defensiveness into receptiveness. Though there are many other factors that contribute to relationship, once the above transitions have taken place, you would be well on your way to working through things without the help of a therapist.
